The Georgian era spans the reigns of the four King Georges (1714 to 1830), encompassing design movements from early Georgian simplicity through to the ornate flourishes of the Regency period, often characterised by classical proportions and fine craftsmanship.

Cutlery from this period typically featured steel or silver-plated blades combined with organic handles such as agate, mother-of-pearl, bone, or ivory, secured with decorative silver ferrules and pinned tangs.

Authenticity is usually determined by examining the construction techniques, such as the shape of the blade, the hand-carved nature of the handle, the wear patterns, and any maker marks or lack of modern stainless steel stamps.

Antique cutlery can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes as wall art, or incorporated into curated table settings to add historical texture to contemporary dining spaces.

Preservation requires hand washing with mild soap, thorough drying, and occasional gentle polishing with a non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina without damaging the silver plate or organic handle materials.
