Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nutmeg graters became essential dining accessories during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries when whole nutmeg was a costly, prized spice. Portable graters were crafted so owners could carry their own spices to social gatherings and meals.

High-status examples were predominantly executed in sterling silver, featuring steel interior rasps for grating. Base metal variants were constructed from brass, copper, or pewter, often electroplated to emulate solid silver.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmark impressions, including a maker mark, silver purity mark (lion passant), town mark, and date letter. Internal steel rasps will typically show age-appropriate wear and patination.

Small silver novelties serve as ideal decorative accents when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or inside glass cabinet showcases. They add historical texture and reflective detail when grouped alongside period glassware or books.

Clean silver components using a soft cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that strip depth from carved details. Ensure steel rasps are kept dry to prevent rust formation.
