Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian ice bucket is executed in the Rococo Revival style with a silver-plated finish over an original ruby red glass liner. The piece stands on cast foliate feet and incorporates twin rococo handles, a pierced scrollwork casing, and a domed fluted lid topped by a finial. The silver surface reflects light alongside the tartan fabric visible beneath the object. The item is fully marked underneath and remains in very good condition with age-related wear evident across the polished metal. Measuring 24 cm high, 15.5 cm wide, and 15.5 cm deep, this lidded bucket works well placed on a sideboard top in a dining room or a gentleman's library setting today.

FAQs

Originating in the nineteenth century, these vessels were designed to hold ice for cooling beverages during formal dining, often featuring Rococo Revival motifs and pierced metalwork with protective interior liners.

These items were typically constructed from electroplated nickel silver or Sheffield plate, frequently fitted with glass or metal liners and decorated with cast handles, finials, and pierced repousse details.

Authentic nineteenth-century silver-plated items often bear manufacturer touchmarks or maker stamps near the base, displaying heavy cast fittings, chased ornamentation, and age-appropriate wear to the silver layer.

Position the piece on a dining room sideboard, home bar cart, or drinks cabinet to introduce metallic texture, or repurpose it as a table centrepiece for floral arrangements.

Clean gently with a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish to manage tarnish, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemicals that can wear down the surface silver plating.
