Elegant Set of 3 Silver Plated Arts and Crafts Trumpet Vases – Circa 1890

19th century
Description

Elegant Set of 3 Silver Plated Arts and Crafts Trumpet Vases by Hukin & Heath, attributed to Christopher Dresser, in an all over wood bark textured finish. Each rises from a swirling circular base (emulating tree roots) into a gently flared, petal edged top, rendered in a sensibility that channels the Arts &?Crafts ethos - honest, handmade inspired form, subtle ornamentation and a focus on material beauty – circa 1890.

Measurements:

Height of tallest vase: 8 1/2" (approx. 21.5cm)

Diameter of base of tallest vase: 4 1/4" (approx. 10.5cm)

Height of shorter vase: 5 1/2" (approx. 14cm)

Diameter of base of shorter vase: 3" (approx. 7.5cm)

Total weight: 538g

In good condition – The silver-plated finish retains a strong, reflective shine across all three pieces, with some light surface wear consistent with age and gentle use. The swirl bases are intact, stable, and level, with no warping.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late 19th-century Arts and Crafts metalwork emphasized organic, nature-inspired forms, hand-crafted aesthetic details, and stylized floral motifs as a reaction against mass industrialisation.

These items were typically crafted from a base metal alloy, such as electroplated nickel silver, shaped through casting and spinning before receiving a layer of pure silver plating.

Authentic examples feature period makers marks or silver plate stamps on the underside, alongside characteristic fluid line work, whipcrack curves, or stylized botanical motifs typical of the 1890s.

Arrange the set of three as a central grouping on a sideboard or mantelpiece, displaying single-stem flowers to highlight their elongated silhouettes.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and clean occasionally using a non-abrasive silver polish specifically formulated for silver plate to prevent oxidisation without wearing down the outer layer.
