We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, a period noted for refined craftsmanship, classical proportions, and the introduction of distinct regional assay offices across Britain.

Antique flatware from this period was predominantly crafted from sterling silver, forged by hand using traditional hammering, shaping, and chasing techniques before being hand-finished and stamped with official assay office hallmarks.

Authenticity is verified by examining the struck hallmarks on the reverse of the piece, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark indicating sterling fineness, a date letter, and a town mark representing the assay office.

Antique silver items can be displayed on sideboards or within glass-fronted cabinets as part of a curated tablescape, or used functionally during formal dining occasions to introduce historic texture and reflective metallic elements.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver cloth or specialist polish to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips, and stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight to prevent rapid oxidisation.
