Norwegian silver and enamel work gained international prominence in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, pioneered by master silversmiths such as David-Andersen and J. Tostrup, who utilised guilloche techniques to create vibrant decorative items.

These items are typically crafted from sterling silver, often with a gilt wash interior, and finished using translucent vitreous enamel over machine-engraved guilloche metal bases.

Authentic pieces bear traditional maker marks and silver purity stamps, such as 925S, alongside precise hand-applied enamel work that displays crisp engine-turned detailing beneath the translucent coloured glass.

As a small decorative object, it can be displayed on a dining table centre, within a glazed cabinet, or styled on a surface to add a touch of colourful mid-century craftsmanship to a room.

Enamel and silver pieces should be cleaned gently using warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes, harsh chemical dips, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to protect the fragile glass glaze.
