Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian period, silver table bells were widely used in wealthy households to summon domestic staff or announce dinner. These items often featured intricate silver overlay work, combining functionality with elaborate craftsmanship typical of late 19th-century metalwork.

These decorative objects typically combine blown clear glass for the lower body with cast or pierced sterling silver mounts forming the upper section, neck, and handle. Internal clappers were usually suspended from an eyelet attached beneath the silver cap.

Authentic British pieces display official silver hallmarks stamped on the handle or silver overlay, including a makers mark, purity mark such as the lion passant, assay town mark, and date letter. The wear pattern should also show natural age around edges and contact points.

An antique silver table bell works effectively placed on a tray atop a sideboard, displayed within a curated bookshelf vignette, or styled on a desk in a home office to add textural interest and a historical touch.

Clean the glass portion using a damp soft cloth, taking care not to submerge internal joints. Polish the sterling silver section gently with a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that could seep between the metal overlay and glass base.
