Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian period, silver-mounted glass decanters became popular accessories for formal dining and gentlemans smoking rooms. British silversmiths frequently adorned heavy coloured glass vessels with hallmarked silver necks, stoppers, and liquor labels to signify the stored spirit.

These vessels were typically hand-blown using thick tinted or clear lead glass, combined with sterling silver collars, stoppers, and plaques. The stoppers often incorporated cork inserts to ensure an airtight seal for preserving spirits.

Authentic period pieces feature official silver hallmarks, including the city mark, fineness mark, date letter, and makers initials stamped onto the silver components. The glass base often displays hand-finished pontil marks or period wear consistent with genuine age.

Position the decanter on a dark timber sideboard, a brass drinks trolley, or within a styled bookshelf array. Combining coloured glass barware with silver accents adds textural depth and timeless character to dining and living spaces.

Rinse the interior using warm water and specialised glass cleaning beads, avoiding full immersion in water to protect cork stoppers. Silver mounts should be polished gently with a dry, soft silver cloth to prevent chemical residue from touching the glass surface.
