We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver-mounted decanter is a decorative liquid vessel produced during the nineteenth century, combining hand-blown or cut glass with an ornamental sterling silver collar or mount around the neck.

These vessels were crafted using lead crystal or tinted blown glass, such as amethyst, cobalt, or ruby glass. Mounts were fashioned from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring intricate repousse or chased decoration, alongside a ground-glass stopper.

Authentic pieces display official assay hallmarks stamped into the silver collar, indicating the maker, purity, assay office, and date letter. Additionally, genuine period glass often features a polished pontil mark on the base and a custom ground-glass stopper fitted precisely to the neck.

Decanters are frequently placed on a dining sideboard, bar cart, or tray within a living room. Pairing coloured glass vessels with polished metal trays creates visual contrast and highlights the rich tone of the glass under interior lighting.

The interior should be rinsed with lukewarm water and mild dish soap, avoiding extreme temperature changes that cause thermal shock. Silver collars require delicate hand-polishing with a soft cloth and specialised silver foam, ensuring polish does not seep into the glass joint.
