Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century as tea became a luxury commodity in Britain, requiring specialised instruments to transfer loose leaves from a caddy to the teapot.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver using hand-hammering, piercing, chasing, and bright-cut engraving techniques by skilled silversmiths.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, indicating the makers mark, standard mark, town mark for assay, and date letter.

Antique silver can be displayed within glass cabinets, shadow boxes, or styled on silver trays as part of a curated tablescape.

Preservation involves minimal cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials that can damage engravings.
