George II silver, produced between 1727 and 1760, is characterised by classical proportions, robust forms, and a transition from plain surfaces to rich chased and embossed rococo ornamentation.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver, often with a gilt interior known as parcel-gilt, using hand-raised or cast construction methods combined with chasing and engraving.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date letter, alongside period-correct weight, construction seams, and natural wear patterns.

Antique silver pieces add a layer of reflective texture and historical contrast when displayed on modern sideboards, open shelving, or polished dining surfaces.

Preserve silver-gilt by avoiding harsh chemical dips, cleaning only with specialist non-abrasive silver polishes when necessary, and handling with cotton gloves to prevent skin oils from tarnishing the metal.
