A caddy spoon is a small utensil specifically designed to measure dry loose-leaf tea from a caddy into a teapot, which became popular during the Georgian period as tea grew into a luxury commodity.

These pieces were typically handcrafted from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, piercing, and bright-cut engraving to create intricate decorative patterns on the bowl and handle.

Authenticity is usually verified through hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the makers mark, standard mark, town assay office, and a date letter corresponding to the Georgian era.

Antique silver can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shallow shadow boxes, or styled on a silver tray alongside other period items as part of a curated tablescape.

Antique silver should be washed infrequently using warm water and mild soap, dried with a soft microfibre cloth, and polished sparingly with a non-abrasive silver cloth to preserve the original patina and detail.
