A pierced silver dish is a decorative tableware item featuring intricate openwork patterns created by cutting or piercing the metal, popular for serving sweets, nuts, or small pastries during formal dining.

These items are traditionally crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as hand-piercing, stamping, and polishing to create delicate reticulated patterns while maintaining structural integrity.

Authentic pieces are identified by examining hallmark stamps, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for silver purity, an assay office mark such as the Chester city mark, and a date letter.

Such pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, coffee table, or mantelpiece as a standalone decorative object or used functionally to hold small items like keys or potpourri.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly with a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to maintain its finish, and stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight.
