Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cocktail shakers gained widespread popularity during the 1920s and 1930s due to the rise of cocktail culture. British manufacturers, particularly based in Sheffield, produced electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) barware featuring streamlined geometric forms, pouring spouts, and cork seals characteristic of the Art Deco period.

Vintage cocktail shakers were predominantly constructed from electroplated nickel silver, sterling silver, or chrome-plated brass. Cork was frequently incorporated to create liquid-tight seals around caps and pouring spouts, while metal chains prevented attached stoppers from becoming detached.

Authentic silver-plated pieces typically feature stamped makers marks or initials, such as EPNS for Electroplated Nickel Silver, alongside manufacturer symbols or trade names. Additional construction details, including solder joints, hand-fitted cork liners, and period-appropriate geometric handles, also indicate authentic period origin.

A silver-plated cocktail shaker can be displayed on a metallic or mirrored bar cart, a dining room sideboard, or inside a glass-fronted cabinet. Grouping the vessel alongside period crystal glassware, soda syphons, or decanters creates a cohesive focus point for modern entertaining areas.

Silver-plated items should be washed by hand using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads that can wear away the plating. Tarnish can be removed using a non-abrasive silver polish applied gently with a soft cloth, while cork components should be kept dry to prevent degradation.
