Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Georgian period, personal correspondence increased significantly, leading silversmiths to produce specialized desk items including paper knives, inkstands, and wax seals. These pieces reflected social standing and were frequently crafted using fine sterling silver integrated with semi-precious minerals.

Georgian letter openers typically feature sterling silver blades mounted to carved handles made from natural hardstones such as agate, mother of pearl, ivory, or exotic hardwoods. The silver section was secured with a hidden tang and cemented internally.

Authentic period British silver bears a set of stamped hallmarks indicating metal purity and origin. Look for the lion passant for sterling quality, the leopards head for the London assay office, a date letter, a sovereigns duty mark, and a registered makers mark.

Place the letter opener on an executive writing desk alongside a leather blotter, or display it on a decorative marble tray inside a study or home library. Combining polished metal with organic mineral handles adds texture to contemporary workspace surfaces.

Clean the silver blade using a specialist silver polishing cloth while avoiding harsh liquid chemical dips that could seep into the handle joint. Keep the agate handle dry and store the item away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity changes.
