Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A writing bureau from the early 18th century is a form of case furniture featuring a angled fall-front lid that opens to reveal an interior writing surface alongside small drawers and pigeonholes, situated above a lower chest of drawers.

These bureaux were typically framed in solid native woods such as oak or pine, veneered with decorative timber cuts like burr elm or walnut, and built using hand-sawn dovetail joints, crossbanded borders, and hand-cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail jointing on drawer linings, secondary woods of pine or oak, iron lock mechanisms, brass drop handles secured by hand-cut nuts on the reverse, and natural timber shrinkage aligned with age.

An antique bureau functions well as a focal statement piece in a study, hallway, or living area, pairing balance when set alongside contemporary seating, neutral wall tones, and modern lighting.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and central heating vents to prevent veneer lifting or timber cracking, and polish periodically with a high-grade beeswax following the direction of the wood grain.
