Fine Qum Rug, Central Persia, Circa 1940, 2.14m X 1.33m

£2,400    $3,206    €2,806
Persian city rug weaving experienced a revival in the 1930s when the Iranian government introduced incentives to promote the industry. At that time the city of Qum in Central Persia emerged as a new dynamic centre of carpet weaving with several workshops emerging making fine rugs to a high standard reproducing designs from the traditional Persian carpet repertoire. This rug was woven during the early period and displays all the best characteristics, such as the use of soft ''Kurk'' wool, a fine weave and very subtle harmonious dyes. The garden design is borrowed from Bakhtiari rugs and is very nicely executed with a variety of ornaments within the panels including cypress trees, botehs and flowering urns. The floral border is also pretty and frames the composition nicely. Clean and in excellent condition, this fine rug would be a great addition to many decorative schemes.
