Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Irish Georgian silver from this period often displays distinctive Dublin hallmarks alongside elaborate decorative techniques, such as hand-pierced openwork, rococo-influenced floral repousse, and chased detailing. Items produced in Ireland during the mid-to-late 18th century frequently combined local craftsmanship traditions with broader European stylistic trends.

Georgian silver baskets were crafted from high-purity sterling silver using hand-hammering, casting, and piercing techniques. Artisans created intricate lattice patterns by hand-cutting the sheet metal with fine saws, subsequently soldering cast elements like swing handles and footed bases to the body.

Authentic period silver features stamped hallmarks denoting the purity of the metal, the assay office location, the date letter, and the registered makers mark. On 18th-century Irish silver, key indicators include the crowned harp mark for Dublin and Hibernia marks, typically located on the underside of the base or along the rim.

An antique silver basket can serve as an elegant tabletop focal point on a sideboard, dining table, or console. Its reflective metallic surface provides a classic contrast when paired with contemporary muted palettes, natural wood furniture, or modern glass displays.

To preserve antique sterling silver, clean gently using a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive scrubbers, and store the item in a low-humidity environment wrapped in acid-free tissue paper or silver cloth to minimise oxidisation.
