Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th century, a Dutch bombe cylinder bureau features a curved outward-swelling lower body paired with a solid curved roll-top section that slides open to reveal an interior writing surface and nested drawers.

These pieces were typically constructed from an oak or pine carcase veneered with figured woods such as walnut or mahogany, adorned with floral or urn marquetry inlays using contrasting fruitwoods, and fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, irregular hand-sawn back panels, authentic hand-cast brass handles with original surface patination, and natural shrinkage across the veneer consistent with age.

Integrate the bureau as a focal statement piece in a study, library, or reception room, paired with minimal contemporary lighting, neutral wall finishes, and modern artwork to balance the rich detail of the inlay.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent veneer lifting, keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources, clean gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply natural bees-wax polish periodically along the wood grain.
