A pepper caster is a small tabletop container used during the 18th century to dispense ground pepper onto food, reflecting the refined dining customs of the Georgian period.

These pieces typically combine hand-blown or mould-blown lead glass with sterling silver tops, featuring pierced holes for dispensing and hand-cut geometric patterns on the body.

Authenticity is determined by examining the silver hallmarks for date letters and maker marks, the weight and greyish hue of the lead glass, and the hand-finished quality of the cutting.

This item can be displayed on a dining room sideboard or within a glass-fronted cabinet to add historic metallic and reflective glass textures to a room.

Silver components should be gently cleaned with a non-abrasive silver polish, while the glass body can be washed in warm soapy water, avoiding harsh chemicals and extreme temperature changes.
