Victorian Garnet Etruscan Golden Teardrop Earrings

Beautifully crafted earrings in richly coloured silver gilt with garnet cabochons set amid finely applied Etruscan-style wirework. Note the lovely little garnet terminal on each wire and the glossy polished onyx cabochon on each base.
 
Around 1880 many gold treasures dating back to the ancient Etruscan era (700-300 BC) were being discovered in Italian tombs, leading to the emergence of the Etruscan Revival as Victorian jewellers sought to recreate the style. Craftsmen employed considerable skill to make finely detailed pieces using multiple gold working techniques such as granulation, cannetille and filigree and typically employing high-carat gold and semi-precious stones.
 
• Condition: In excellent antique condition with little sign of wear.
 
• Fixing: Silver gilt ear wires, supplied with tiny silicone ''keepers'' for additional security.
 
• Stamps/hallmarks: None.
 
• Era: Estimated Victorian (c.1837-1901).
