Antique western Afghan Timuri or Baluch main carpet, with a rich and warm colour palette
 
Circa 1890.
 
A good main carpet with classic repeat ''tree of life'' design, this is known as ''kalam donneh'' or ''pencil box'' design in Afghanistan. The rug has excellent colour with warm shades of reds along with indigo blue and charcoal.
 
The carpet is in good condition with slight even wear and good pile, there is corrosion to the charcoal browns as one would expect. The carpet has excellent wool which is very glossy.
 
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
