The carpet probably originates from the area around Farah or Chakhansur, in Western Afghanistan near the borders with eastern Persia. The carpet is woven in shades of madder red, light and dark indigo blue, olive brown and ivory; the overall colour palette is warm, earthy and soft. The main border is of a classic Timuri design.
