Antique Timuri or Baluch main carpet, with a rich and warm colour palette
 
Circa 1880.
 
A good main carpet with classic repeat ''tree of life'' design, this is known as ''kalam donneh'' or ''pencil box'' design in Afghanistan. The borders are of typical Timuri design, especially found on older weavings. The rug has excellent colour with warm reds and browns red along with indigo blue and aubergine.
 
The carpet is in good condition with even wear and medium / low pile, there is corrosion to the browns as one would expect. There are a few scattered old historic repairs.
 
The rug is suitable for light domestic use. A Timuri / Baluch main carpet of good age.
