Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese Export Silver refers to silver items produced in China from the late eighteenth century through the mid-twentieth century specifically for export to Western markets. These pieces combine traditional Chinese metalworking motifs, such as dragons, bamboo, and chrysanthemums, with Western functional forms like tea sets, dishes, and tankards.

Pieces were typically crafted from high-grade silver, often equivalent to sterling standard. Artisans utilised techniques such as hand repousse, chasing, piercing, and engraving to produce intricate three-dimensional reliefs and delicate floral patterns.

Authentic pieces frequently bear artisan or shop marks stamped on the base, often featuring Chinese characters alongside pseudo-Hallmarks or English maker initials. Hand-hammered construction marks, crisp relief detailing, and characteristic silver purity levels also distinguish genuine period examples.

A silver dish functions as a refined accent when displayed on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or dining table. It can be showcased as a standalone decorative object or used to hold small items in an entryway or library setting.

Dust regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and polish sparingly using a specialised silver polish to prevent tarnish build-up. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive scrubbing pads, or prolonged exposure to moisture, which can damage the detailed repousse surfaces.
