An Edwardian silver tea caddy is a small, lidded container crafted during the reign of King Edward VII, specifically designed to store dry loose tea leaves securely and protect them from moisture and light.

These pieces were typically fabricated from solid sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, spinning, or hand-hammering, and frequently featured an interior gilt wash (vermily) to prevent the acidic tea from tarnishing the silver.

Authentic pieces bear official British hallmark stamps indicating the assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter corresponding to 1902, and the makers mark.

Such a decorative object can be displayed on a sideboard top or mantelpiece as a reflective focal point, pairing well with traditional or transitional interiors to add metallic texture and historic character.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly with a non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain its patina, avoiding harsh liquid dips that can strip the original finish or damage any interior gilding.
