Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Corinthian column lamps draw inspiration from classical Greek and Roman architecture, becoming particularly popular during the Victorian and Edwardian periods as part of the Classical Revival movement when ancient motifs were adapted for domestic interiors.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from cast or spun brass, often featuring weighted iron bases for stability. Components like fluted columns and acanthus capitals are frequently cast in sections and joined via threaded rods or internal wiring channels.

Authentication involves examining the casting quality, patination, and construction methods. Older pieces often exhibit heavy cast components, hand-cut screw threads, period-appropriate wiring or key-turn switches, and natural oxidisation rather than uniform chemical finishes.

A brass standard lamp provides vertical accent lighting and can be positioned beside a sofa or in an empty corner to add warmth and metallic contrast. Pairing it with a neutral linen or pleated silk shade helps bridge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding abrasive metal cleaners that strip the historic patina. If polishing is necessary, use a non-abrasive formula sparingly, and ensure electrical components are regularly tested by a qualified professional.
