William Rand Antiques has dated this piece to the 1960s.
Despite its romantic title, the silver has no proven connection with the Armada of 1588. Sir Christopher Harris was however an Admiralty official under Sir Walter Raleigh from 1584 and the Armada Service probably represents profits from administrating Spanish prizes during the Anglo Spanish War, 1585 - 1603.
Sir Christopher's heir, John Marris, was a Royalist in the Civil War and had hidden the service in Brixton, Devon following the Royalist defeat of 18 February, 1645. The service was oventually discovered in a potato store at Brixton in 1827 and now can be seen al the British Museum in London.
