Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bohemian overlay glass lustres are decorative 19th-century glass vessels featuring cut glass prisms suspended around a scalloped top rim. Crafted in Central Europe, they consist of double-layered (cased) glass where the outer opaque layer is cut away in patterns to expose the contrasting coloured glass beneath.

Craftsmen blew a base layer of coloured glass, such as cobalt blue or ruby red, and fused an outer casing of opaque white or alabaster glass over it. Portions of the outer layer were ground away using lapidary wheels to reveal the underlying colour, followed by hand-application of enamel paint and gold leaf accents before adding cut glass prisms.

Authentic examples display hand-cut precision with subtle irregularities, pontil marks or smoothed bases, and hand-painted enamel detailing that exhibits minor variations. The suspended prisms are typically heavy, hand-cut glass or lead crystal attached with brass or copper wire hooks.

Place a symmetrical pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, dining table, or credenza top to act as focal points. Position them near natural or artificial light sources to maximise the light refraction through the hanging crystal prisms.

Dust the glass surfaces gently using a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth, taking care around gilded and hand-painted areas. Remove the crystal prisms to wash them separately in warm water with mild soap, ensuring all metal connector wires are thoroughly dried before reattaching.
