A joint stool is a sturdy wooden seating item constructed using mortise and tenon joints, pegged together by hand during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, frequently used for sitting or as a support surface.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from native English timbers, most commonly quarter-sawn oak, selected for its strength and durability.

Authenticity is determined by examining tool marks, hand-carved pegs, timber shrinkage, oxidation patterns, and traditional joinery methods consistent with the period.

An antique joint stool can function as a standalone side table, a plant stand, or an accent piece, introducing historical texture and warmth into contemporary living spaces.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, avoiding silicone polishes, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood.
