Victorian jewellery spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and is generally divided into three distinct periodsRomantic, Grand, and Late Victorianeach characterised by specific motifs, symbolic meanings, and metallurgical techniques.

Late Victorian pieces frequently utilised 18-carat and 9-carat yellow gold, often paired with mined gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, and diamonds, set securely using hand-beaten claws or flush settings.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-carved details, characteristic hallmarks from British assay offices, natural inclusions within the gemstones under magnification, and signs of genuine artisanal craftsmanship rather than modern casting.

An antique ring adds historical character to modern ensembles and pairs well when stacked with minimalist contemporary bands or worn as a singular statement piece against neutral fabrics.

Antique jewellery should be stored individually in soft pouches, kept away from harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners, and inspected periodically by a professional jeweller to ensure stone security.
