Art Deco silver emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric lines, stylised motifs, and a departure from the ornate floral designs of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Traditional sugar casters from this period were predominantly manufactured from sterling silver or electroplated nickel silver, often featuring weighted bases for stability.

Authentic pieces typically feature British hallmark stamps indicating the makers mark, the assay office, the metal purity standard, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such decorative silver pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, incorporated into a bar cart arrangement, or used as a striking tablescape centrepiece to introduce metallic contrast.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage patination and hallmarks.
