Georgian Mahogany Apothecary Box

18th century
Description

A good example of an early 19th Century mahogany apothecary case with brass strapping, brass corner pieces and inset military style brass handles.

The top of the box lifts to reveal a selection of various glass medicine bottles, some with original paper labels and some with cork stoppers. Below this is a drawer which can be opened when a steel rod is lifted up. This drawer contains a couple of glass measuring beakers and some other accessories and bottles.

The mahogany box is in excellent condition and is strong and sturdy with a beautiful patina. There are some small knocks and marks but no major damages and the inside is generally clean and tidy. It also comes with it original working key.

There are no major damages to any of the glass bottles. There are some nibbles and small chips around the tops of some of them but nothing serious and the contents of the drawer are also in excellent condition.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
