The George II period spans from 1727 to 1760, characterised by a transition from the simpler forms of the Queen Anne era to the more ornate rococo styles, with silver items from this time highly valued for their craftsmanship and sterling standard purity.

Georgian flatware was predominantly hand-wrought from sterling silver, adhering to strict assay office regulations, and typically featured hand-engraved maker marks, lion passant guarantees, and date letters.

Authenticity is verified by inspecting the hallmarks stamped into the metal, which generally include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling standard, the leopards head for London assay, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of production.

Antique silver items can be displayed within glass cabinets, arranged on sideboards as part of a curated tablescape, or framed in shadow boxes to introduce historic texture and metallic contrast to modern spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh dips that can strip desirable patina, and stored in tarnish-resistant cloth in a low-humidity environment.
