Exquisite Victorian Solid Silver Thimble Cased in Ormulu Chatelaine Egg-shaped Holder

Description

This Victorian silver thimble was made by James Fenton and is dated Birmingham 1895. It is fitted in its original egg-shaped ormulu thimble case. The outer case chased all over with bright-cut designs and fitted with a suspension chain. The side with a thumb-piece opening to reveal the original interior fitted with blue silk and crushed velvet. So often, the interior of these holders are missing. This is a beautiful complete example.

Hallmarks:

J.F for James Fenton.

Birmingham Assay Mark.

Lion Passant.

Date letter "u" for 1895.

Dimensions:

Thimble height: 2cm / 0.6 inches.

Case Height: 2.5cm / 1 inch.

Width: 4cm / 1.4 inches.

Depth: 2cm / 1 inch.

Condition:

Very good condition

Original interior in good condition.
