Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian revolving bookcase dates from around 1900 and is made from dark brown oak with brass and cast iron fittings. The piece has a square top featuring a carved rope-twist edge, vertical wooden slats along the sides, and a fold-out reading flap attached to the upper tier. The design rests on small round feet and incorporates a rotating mechanism for easy access to the interior storage shelves. Practical and compact, the bookcase measures 107 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. Suitable for use in a traditional home library, study, or living room, this item provides functional storage for books and periodicals while taking up minimal floor space. The dark timber finish and slatted construction suit period interior schemes, placing the piece easily alongside classic writing desks and reading chairs.

FAQs

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a revolving bookcase is a compact library piece featuring multiple open tiers that rotate around a central vertical axis for convenient access to books.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, vertical side slats, and a cast iron central rotating mechanism mounted on castors.

Authentic Edwardian examples often feature quarter-sawn oak, rope-twist or gadrooned carving along the top edge, period-appropriate brass hardware, and heavy cast iron rotational mechanisms underneath.

Position a revolving bookcase alongside a reading armchair or desk in a home office, styling the upper shelf with decorative ceramics or a table lamp while using the lower tiers for curated literature.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to preserve the patina, while occasionally lubricating the iron rotational mechanism to ensure smooth movement.
