The George III style, spanning from 1760 to 1811, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the prominent use of high-quality timbers such as mahogany, often featuring understated elegance and subtle inlay work.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like solid mahogany with figured veneer accents, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and secondary woods such as oak or pine for internal drawer linings.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting timber shrinkage, hand-cut joinery, original backboards, cast brass hardware, and the natural patina developed through decades of oxidisation and use.

Pairing dark wood period furniture with modern minimalist surroundings, neutral walls, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the rich grain and historical character of the piece.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood without sealing it.
