Art Deco tableware emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric lines, stylised motifs, and a departure from the ornate floral designs of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, embracing the machine age.

Traditional toast racks from the early 20th century were predominantly manufactured from sterling silver, silver-plate, or occasionally chromium-plated metals, often crafted using stamped, soldered, and polished techniques.

Authentic British silver from 1935 is typically identified by a series of hallmarks stamped onto the metal, which include the makers mark, the sterling silver standard mark (such as a lion passant), the town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year.

An antique silver piece can be integrated into contemporary spaces by using it as a sculptural accent on a sideboard, open shelving, or a dining table, contrasting its polished metallic finish with natural textures like linen, wood, or stone.

Sterling silver should be cleaned periodically with a soft, non-abrasive microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish to remove tarnish, and stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and humidity to preserve its finish.
