Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This unusual 19th-century Georgian floor lamp table combines a mahogany tripod base with cabriole legs, an oval main tabletop, a secondary upper tray fitted with twin brass light sockets, and a pleated pale grey fabric shade topped with a turned metal finial. The rich dark brown timber displays a polished finish with visible grain patterns across the turned central column and curved supports. Standing 148 cm high, 48 cm wide and 37 cm deep, the piece offers full adjustability through a visible metal adjustment screw mechanism on the central shaft. Placed at the end of a sofa in a living room, this piece serves as both a functional reading light and a compact side table for holding drinks or books. The combination of lighting and surface space provides a practical addition to traditional English country house interiors without taking up excessive floor area.

FAQs

An antique lamp table conversion is an original 18th or 19th-century piece of furniture, such as a Georgian wine table, pole screen, or candle stand, adapted during the 20th century with electrical components to serve as a floor-standing reading lamp.

Traditional pieces were constructed using solid mahogany timber for the central column and tripod legs, often paired with brass adjustment fittings. Modernised versions incorporate metal conduits alongside fabric or pleated silk lampshades.

Authentic conversions display period joinery techniques, such as hand-carved legs or turned columns, alongside physical evidence of earlier functional components like pole screen brackets retrofitted with vintage electrical fittings.

Position the piece beside a sofa or reading chair to combine task illumination with a functional tabletop for drinks, bridging traditional dark wood textures with modern upholstery.

Dust the mahogany framework regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain annually. Ensure all internal electrical wiring is inspected periodically by a qualified electrician.
