Military chalices were portable communion vessels issued to or privately acquired by military chaplains during wartime to conduct services for troops in the field.

These vessels were typically crafted from solid sterling silver or silver-plate, often featuring a gilded interior known as the vermeil to protect the metal from consecrated wine.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the assay office, makers mark, and date letter corresponding to the era.

Display the piece as a standalone decorative object on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or within a glass cabinet to highlight its metallic sheen and historical form.

Clean silver gently with a specialist microfibre cloth and non-abrasive polish only when necessary, storing it in a dry environment to prevent tarnishing.
