Opus Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
They consist of two drip pan bases which screw together to form a circular bun. When unscrewed the base divides into two halves revealing two candle cups and two candle snuffers.
They were also used by pilgrims visiting the Holy Land.
They were also known as portable candlesticks by the military.
This example is nice as ithey still retain both of the candle snuffers, these are often lost.
The base measures 12cm w.
