The George V era, spanning from 1910 to 1936, saw a revival of classical styles alongside the introduction of cleaner, restrained lines influenced by early Art Deco design, while maintaining traditional British manufacturing techniques.

Antique picture frames from this period typically feature a thin sheet of sterling silver mounted over a wooden or composition core, with a velvet or baize-covered wooden backing and a hinged metal strut for support.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear hallmarks stamped on the silver border, indicating the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

An antique silver frame adds metallic texture and reflective quality when placed on a dark wood mantelpiece, a modern side table, or styled within a gallery wall arrangement to mix historical periods.

Silver frames should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish, taking care to avoid harsh dips that can damage the underlying structural core or velvet backing.
