This pair of late seventeenth-century candlesticks exemplifies Baroque metalwork, rendered in solid brass with a warm gold finish and polished surfaces showing gentle age-related patination. Each piece stands on an octagonal stepped base featuring crisp moulded edges, rising to a robust multi-baluster turned stem punctuated by bold twin knops and a flared capital at the socket. The balanced proportions display traditional seventeenth-century foundry techniques, with visible turning rings on the shaft and secure corner joins on the wide footplates. These functional table accessories measure 21 cm high. They suit placement upon a mantelpiece or a side table within a traditional interior, such as a gentleman's library or a formal dining room, where they serve as decorative accents.

Late 17th-century brass candlesticks typically feature distinctive turned stems, multi-tiered or faceted bases, and heavy proportions characteristic of the Stuart and William and Mary periods.

These items were traditionally cast in brass using multi-part sand moulds or lost-wax techniques, then hand-turned on a lathe to refine the profile and assemble the components.

Authentic pieces exhibit casting flaws, file marks from hand-finishing, patination appropriate to age, and correct weight distribution typical of early metalworking techniques.

Place them on a mantelpiece, dining table centre, or sideboard to introduce metallic warmth, historical contrast, and vertical interest to contemporary living spaces.

Maintain the surface with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip the historic patination and oxidation accumulated over centuries.
