A Chrome Brass Student or Officers Candle Reading Lamp C1900, 37cm.
A charming early 20th century, circa 1900-1910, student or otherwise known as officers candle reading lamps with original spring loaded retractable candle sleeve.
Often popular around the late 19th century to early 20th century with students and military campaign officers.
The 3 sectional candle reading lamp separates at the directional top lamp section with ventilation for the heat, the main body and the internal spring mechanism accessed from the base, see images.
An enchanting, evocative reading lamp or candle of both practical and decorative appeal, an interior design piece for a classic or contemporary space.
Please note that we have not attempted to polish as we consider the oxidised age has character but the buyer may choose to.., chrome over brass, well constructed piece where the chrome or silver plate, probably Sheffield Plate has rubbed around the base to reveal the brass below, known as bleed
