This gorgeous antique sterling silver vinaigrette dates from the early years of Queen Victoria''s reign.It is hallmarked for Birmingham1843 with the maker''s mark of Edward Smith and shows a very crisp picture of St Paul''s Cathedral. The silver is in excellent condition, both hinges are good. There is a slight loss to the gilding on the top of the grille, probably a result of over-zealous cleaning, but otherwise the gilding is also good. There is an inscription in the cartouche on the back which (interestingly!) reads ''EGYPT''.
