Silver should be cleaned periodically with a specialist non-abrasive polishing cloth to remove tarnish while preserving hallmarks and fine engraving details. Gemstones must be handled with care, avoiding harsh chemical dips that could damage organic settings or mineral structures.

These decorative accessories can be displayed on a dining table centrepiece, within a glass-fronted cabinet, or integrated into a sophisticated tablescape to add texture, historic character, and subtle metallic sheen to modern settings.

Authenticity is verified through clear metal hallmarks indicating the assay office, standard of silver purity, and makers mark. Genuine period pieces will also exhibit hand-cut stone facets, natural inclusions within the quartz, and appropriate age-related patina on the silver surfaces.

These pieces are typically crafted from sterling silver, often featuring pierced or chased openwork detailing depicting thistles or foliage. The central gemstones are natural Scottish quartz varieties, such as cairngorm or citrine, securely bezel-set into polished metal mounts.

Scottish pebble jewellery and decorative items gained immense popularity during the Victorian era, largely driven by Queen Victorias affection for Balmoral and the Scottish Highlands. Craftsmen incorporated local stones such as cairngorms, agates, and jaspers into silver mounts, creating distinctive regional pieces celebrating Celtic and traditional motifs.
