Art Nouveau design is characterised by organic, flowing lines, asymmetrical plant-like motifs, and a focus on natural forms, prominent during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Silver overlay, or silver deposit, was created by painting a design in liquid silver onto the glass surface and then placing the piece in an electroplating bath to bond a thick layer of sterling silver.

Authentic pieces typically feature genuine sterling silver hallmarks or stamps on the silver mount, hand-finished detailing, and characteristic signs of age such as gentle tarnish and minor surface wear on the metal.

These decorative objects work well when displayed on mirrored trays, open shelving, or dressing tables, adding a touch of historical craftsmanship and rich colour to contemporary spaces.

Clean the glass with a soft, damp cloth and use a specialist non-abrasive silver polish carefully on the metal overlay, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the glass or weaken the adhesive bond.
