Poignant Memorial Portrait of a Baby, 1915

Description

This most precious and poignant portrait shows Mary Susan Yorke as a tiny baby. Mary was the first born child of The Hon. Claude John Yorke and his wife Fay (née Zarifi). She was born on 4 April 1915 but tragically died the following day. How treasured this piece must have been as a memento of their only daughter.

Painted on ivorine, the portrait is set in a circular gold frame with a surround of seed pearls and a beautiful diamond-set M (for Mary) surmount.

Size: 45mm diam. + M pediment
