Technical Description A Georgian silver vinaigrette with a beautifully gilded filigree grille. It is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1804 and with the makers mark �SP� for Samuel Pemberton. The top is engraved �LW� in fine monogram script. It has a narrow curved form with a bar in relief on either side of the opening.Date & Origin Snow Hill, Birmingham, England, 1804. Snow Hill was the centre of Birmingham''s jewellery and toy-making district.The Samuel Pemberton family was a long-established West Midlands family that produced silver novelties such as boxes, corkscrews, caddy spoons, and nutmeg graters. His ancestor Roger Pemberton can be traced back to 1509 when he was Mayor of Walsall. Samuel registered silver marks at the Birmingham Assay Office between 1773 and 1801 and worked in the silver trade until 1836, he became Guardian of the Assay Office in 1793.The firm was originally registered as Samuel Pemberton but was renamed Pemberton, Son & Mitchell in 1812 and S Pemberton & Son in 1821.
