Early 20th-century frames from the George V era often feature clean geometric lines, subtle curved crests, and understated neoclassical motifs, reflecting a transition away from heavy Victorian ornamentation.

These pieces typically consist of a thin sheet of hallmarked sterling silver mounted over a wooden core, fitted with a hinged wooden or velvet-covered strut back and a glass pane.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver border, which typically include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark for assay offices such as Birmingham, and a date letter.

Positioning the piece on a polished wooden desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf introduces a reflective metallic element that contrasts effectively with both contemporary minimalist and traditional decors.

Clean the silver using a non-abrasive microfibre cloth and a specialist silver polish, avoiding contact with the wooden backing and glass to prevent moisture damage.
